Tracker Module Music

Post by kkzero »

Share your favorite tunes in the classic sequenced formats (mod, s3m, xm, it, mptm, the more obscure ones too, honestly even anything adjacent like Renoise) here. I'll start with mine that I've collected over the years, a fair chunk of them coming from just one person's collection.

(If any links are broken please let me know, it took me eons to insert them all into here)

Haha! Get it? Get it?? GET IT???

\## in a blaze \## - Funky orch-hits and all, I like it.
actofimpulse - Makes me think of a heroic act in space or something, I quite dig it.
attributed_horror - Definitely a horror vibe, but overall I'd say it's got more of a "cool" tone to it.
caroline - Funky cool track. Caroline sounds like a cool person, I'd like to meet her someday.
chip_07 - A funky SID tune, I quite dig it.
culturebag - Pretty neat one, sounds totally different in the second part than the first.
dangerstreet - Cool bass and synth, the arps at the very end are cool too.
fullmoon - Somber yet snazzy. Quite a mood.
funk_along - Do as the title says, funk along. It's fun!
guardiandragon - I didn't even think this was just four channels the first I heard it. It's a bop.
hi-tension.remix - If you want a song to take you for a ride, listen to this one now. It goes hard.
intestens2 - Has this feeling of wandering a mysterious fantastical place. It's quite nice.
Japtique - Fun challenge: Try singing the background synth phonetically!
justplay - Short but fun tune, makes me think of an urban setting in a game.
lost_symphony - Gotta be one of my favorite of the mod format, the woodwinds + synth choices are so good.
LUNAWAVE - Definitely gives off the vibe of a fading day, quite a cool one.
missing_words - A bit samey with its lead, but pretty neat.
molecule's revenge - I think this was one of the first Amiga mods I listened to. Very much a first impression to get behind if so!
musiklinjen - The audial powerhouse of Phenomena's "Enigma" demo, it's just as much of a bop on its own.
tempest-acidjazz - Apparently this is one of the more popular ones. Not hard to see why, with its killer 8-bit arpeggiated goodness!

s3m

Keeping it classy with 8-bit mono PCM, OPL support, and samples only with no instruments.

aryx - Packs a lotta punch for its small file size.
byndlife - Apparently this was dedicated to someone's then-recently-passed grandfather, which makes its soft 80s-esque vibe all the more touching.
celesfnt - You wanna go for a ride, way up high? Buckle up then, cuz this one is...fantastic.
challenger - Somewhat repetitive, but also quite heroically foreboding. I like it.
cloverlf - Another personal favorite of mine, the samples are so soft. This one was my driving force during a particularly stressful weekend.
e-89562 - A pretty cool immersive synth experience with nice crunchy orch-hits.
elegance - Another immersive synth experience, with a gradual build-up. Quite nice.
f_l_a_s_h - WE'RE GOING OUT OF CONTROLcontrolcontrolcontrol WE'RE GOING OUT OF CONTROLcontrolcontrolcontrol WE'RE GOING OUT OF CONTROLcontrolcontrolcontrol WE'RE GOING OUT OF CONTROLcontrolcontrolcontrol
horizons_rendez_vous - A pretty, almost victorious-sounding song. Kinda reminds me of the True Ending music from Kirby's Dream Land 2.
isotoxin - A nice, dark little experience. Makes me feel like I'm traversing a dark area in some kind of hazmat gear.
War-rem - Skaven masters the s3m format with this varied epic of powerful melodies.
Watered Down Hell - A short but interesting one. If it weren't for its usage in Metroid Confrontation then I might not have had any affinity for it.

xm

SiriusXM is a radio station that offers ad-free music, news, podcasts, comedy, and more. Listen on your car, smartphone, or smart speaker with the SXM App or the online service.

Stuff by DreamSectioN: ds_bas, ds_chri2, ds_confu, ds_ltw, ds_myst, ds_sd, ds_uf, ds_vftp, happy_vibes
This guy's stuff, while not always pristine and banging, is something of a soft spot for me. Sweet Dreams was the first one I heard, and it made an impact. I strongly encourage you to check these ones out.
Stuff by Elwood: DEADLOCK, experience, ICOMPLEX, SHADOW
One of the big names, and not without reason. While Deadlock certainly earned its status as arguably the most popular, I have more of an affinity for Into the Shadow.
0-pt - I really like the squealy noise in the beginning, pretty nice bop throughout too.
0rigin - Has a very natural vibe to it, cool panflutes.
10_10_97 - Mostly a samey techno tune, but the "Hello, listen to me" voice sample hits me so different. Also like that electronic noise that pitches down.
84738-experience - Nice lil thing with warm synths, cool bass, and percussion that screams 90s Roland rompler coolness.
a_girl_in_berlin - Very lovely piano melody, rather repetitive but nice.
an-back - I love this one. It gracefully pulls in, then starts going real hard. Give this one a listen.
aprilsho - A longer one with a nice epic buildup. Key changes are really sweet too.
azh_thunder - Metal? In an xm module??? It's more likely than you think!
bells_in_shells - A fun little techno thing with a jazz interlude. Makes me think of a futuristic society of beings who look kinda like the Starmen from Earthbound.
beyond_vanity - Absolutely enjoy this one, pumpin' dance tune. It makes me feel like I'm at one of those dance parties with all the imaginary beings in my head as a child.
blikk_chillyheart - Almost like a sadder version of Beyond Vanity. I've put this one on while trying to get myself to do an emotionally difficult thing at least once.
boworain - Another one more on the side of "actual" instruments, it's a fun listen.
breeze - It's by Jeroen Tel, you know it's gonna absolutely slap.
Claustrophobia - Another fun one, the lead getting really raspy at times is always fun to listen to.
compo_px - A peppy one with a nice progression of things.
coral_reef - Starts off on the more ambient side, with relaxing wave noises, then gradually gets that classic tracker lead going.
dead_beat - Has some cheesy laughs and screams, but I quite dig it.
dead_brain - Starts off rather decrepit-sounding, as if it takes place in the remains of a civilization. Then it goes into an absolutely bopping techno melody. I always imagine it as someone exploring the ruins of a planet, coming across some old spaceship, then going for a fun ride with it.
df_plan - Inspired by Elwood, this one's just as cool a ride as its inspiree's can be.
drax-laxity-bill_s_bounty_bar - A smooth lil tune with snazzy synths and boppin' Roland percussion samples.
dreaming_sand - A bit of a softer one, with an air of mystique.
dream_of_the_phoenix - Bright, peppy, and plain fun.
estelle - Smooth and wacky electronic noises proliferate this drum-n-bass work. "Melt it down", as it says.
fifth_gear - A rather short but fun and bright ride.
flying_on_a_dragon - A soft guitar thing that does feel like a calm ride on a dragon.
framtid - An uplifting techno thing with cool pianos and saw attacks.
friends_of_mine D'awwww listen to this cute and happy little tune.
from_the_beginning - A brave-sounding thing that makes me think of a Pokemon Trainer crossing a grassy, wide-open route.
futumetro - It almost sounds like an Earthbound battle BGM.
galgox-astral_sea - I pondered my life while on the verge of tears after listening to this once.
garden - whispering Follow me...
g-force_one - Pretty cool one, makes me think of a fantasy action hero darting through a forest at night.
gh-cof - An orchestral one! A grand and epic one at that.
gil-free - A banger that sure does feel like freedom. Best part is when it sounds like it's about to end, but does another whole round of melody.
glide - A relaxing one. Makes me feel like I'm walking through a magical desert with visions of my past fluttering about.
gloryknt - This action tune sure does sound like the theme of a knight fighting their way to glory.
gone_fishing - Radix wants you to sit back, relax, and take in the outside world around you for just a bit.
goodnight_kiss24o - It's pure, soft, magical ambience that will soothe your soul. Very beautiful.
im_in_love - That "relax" voice sample might leave you doing the exact opposite of what it instructs you to do, but this is a charming little song nonetheless.
insideout-fading - A proud, punchy tune that has something of a victorious feeling.
loveloudbeam - AN absolutely soothing and lush song. Makes me feel like I'm lying down in a magical forest at night with colorful fungi. Please listen to this one.
mutant_poulet_bo - Are mutant French chickens really as evil as this one suggests?
one_night_on_this_rusty_space_transporter - A calm and bopping one. I don't think a rusty spacecraft is the safest thing to ride in a subzero vacuum, though.
r_a_p_t_u_r_e - It's like I've died and gone to heaven.
radix-sunchild - The sun has a bright and hopeful child, that's for sure. Almost sounds like the Rivals of Aether theme.
son_of_heaven A soothing and hopeful audial trip.
sp-alrdyfp - I've had this one in my collection forever yet have no memory of my first listen to it/downloading of it. Pretty cool even if a bit samey.
the_echo - A short but sweet chip-sounding thing.
zalza-g_te_g_r_p_tivoli - Perhaps better known for its inclusion in a keygen, this one absolutely bops! I often let this one loop at least 3 or 4 times.

it

something something clowns in the sewer

First, I'd like to give a mention to a very recent release, Cybernetic Aura. Round of applause to our very own SnugglyBun for her exquisite effort put into this!

am-tptc - A calm one that sure does feel like those times in life when I'm curious of where things will go next.
cyborgjeff-aas - A straight trip through a spacey-futurey soundscape with raspy SID-like stuff in the background.
desires - I like this one, got some nice bass and progression.
dope - This one has that sort of "well, I had a bad day, but whatever" sorta vibe to me. Nice to listen to, too.
fb-snow - Very desolate-sounding, as if you've been stranded in the snow for what feels like ages.
ferment - Makes me think of a lightly-snowing area in a game, maybe a town.
gem-bosu - A wacky and synthy one. Might make your Sunday a bit less boring.
hsa_met - This might just be the first tracker module I've ever listened to, having first heard it in a gameplay video of Metroid Confrontation as a kid. It almost sounds like its own song, I never noticed the connection to the Metroid title motif until multiple listens later. Definitely one that's always resonated with me.
hyo-90 - A rather cheerful one with pretty synths, pretty pianos, and cool percussion.
jazz2-dreamland - Made for Jazz Jackrabbit 2 but scrapped, I've always had a real soft spot for one. It always makes me feel like I'm visiting a deep, euphoric spot of my conscience, visually somewhat resembling the Magicant stage in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. A land where everything that soothes me is present, and I can set aside any worries to enjoy the environment. Please give this one a listen.
jimitampc-chateau2 - A rather enjoyable one. Particularly like the brass. Gives me PS1-era RPG vibes.

And now it's your turn! Share modules you like, or vehemently question my disproportionately larger collection of mods and xms than s3ms and its!

Well, I'm not gonna start with literally every single one I've ever liked since honestly I've probably lost track of too many to even try to do that just for starters...

...but to start with, have a scrapped Star Control 2 song! Originally this was planned to be the game's battle theme, but it was replaced due to being deemed not as fitting as it could be or something like that apparently. The composer of this song was still credited in the final game due to just how dang long it ended up in the game throughout its development though!

...and honestly I kiiinda wish they'd found a way to use it, like maybe as the multiplayer battle mode theme or something.

sc2.marucombat1, a.k.a. marucmbt.mod

fairy. (i'll write a better signature later. or leave this one for comedic effect. either way.)

Ahhhh so another one of those instances of "This is such a banger how could they have left it out of the final game???" Never played the Star Control games but this slaps!

Honestly when Cosmogelica comes out I wanna share the NSF file and maybe the FTM file if I'm feeling spicy (though it's in 0cc famitracker so I think it'd really be an 0cc file heh)
