Sonic Worlds Next is the official continuation of the old Clickteam Fusion-based Sonic Worlds Delta fangame development kit, but instead made for the Godot engine. Sharb is the lead developer of this project (I'm the project manager) along with DimensionWarped (one of the original Sonic Worlds developers!)
The goal is to provide a complete basis for creating classic Sonic the Hedgehog-style gameplay that is as accurate to the original Genesis/Mega Drive games as possible. So far, I say that we have nailed it! Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and even Amy (in her Sonic Origins Plus incarnation) are fully implemented and working as expected! There are a good deal of pre-made gimmicks available for use and as reference for creating your own stage elements, and we have frameworks for boss fights (a primitive sample boss is provided) and handling special stages (a simple win/lose debug scene is provided).
Sonic Worlds Delta was provided under an informal "if used, please give credit" license, whereas Sonic Worlds Next is provided under a more formal MIT license... which basically equates to the same thing.
There are some games already being developed with this! I'll let Sharb post her project.

Hello hi yeah I put all the spaghetti in this thing till it started working starting like 2-3 years ago!
I actually spent most of this year actually working on the engine to get it ready for SAGE 2023, I've seen a few projects get picked up using this but nothing's been concrete yet, personally I'm using this for 2 different projects, one of them I can't talk about yet but the other project is Sonic Blast Next, this is something I wanted to make to showcase what you could do with worlds next and you're probably gonna be seeing a lot of click bait youtube videos on it when I get a demo out on it because people love pre-rendered stuff lmao.
I started this a year ago but it's been on hiatus since I needed to focus on getting sonic worlds next going in godot 4... So the framework version I'm using in blast next is a year behind so if you pick up the framework now you're already way ahead of me.

If sonic worlds Next is so good wheres sonic worlds LAST
Seriously though the dedication ya'all have to replicating classic sonic mechanics has always been cool as hell. Sonic has to be the Doom of engine frameworks at this point
